There have been calls for an inquiry as, this year, Mother’s Day marks the change to British Summer Time with the clocks springing forward, on 31 March 2019.
Whilst the clocks go forward on the last Sunday of March every year, this time the last Sunday of March coincides with Mothering Sunday.
Angela Harding, mother of 5 from Gloucester, said “Mother’s Day is the only day of the year I’ve any chance of a lie in, before all the kids wake me up demanding that I put CBeebies on. But no, you couldn’t leave it alone, could you? You bastards.”
Chardonnay Watson, mother of 7 from Wigan, said “I mean we all know it’s bullshit anyway, just a cheap opportunity for shops to cash in yet again with some made up ‘celebration of motherhood’. I read somewhere that it was invented by Hallmark, ffs. Anyway, I couldn’t care less about flowers or presents, because all I care about is the sleeping. What bright spark decided to make Mother’s Day the same day as the clocks go forward? Kill me now.”
Elizabeth Swan of Cirencester suggested that there could be a case to answer. “You realise this will make Mother’s Day an hour shorter than Father’s Day. Isn’t that illegal or something? Obviously, I’m going to have to go on Mumsnet about this.”
Amber Robb, Minister of Holidays, gave a statement on behalf of the Prime Minister. “I apologise on behalf of the Government. Nobody thought about it until now, probably because of all the Brexit stuff going on. We just dropped the ball on this one.”
